What a blast!

Sold a bunch of work, sat in the artist alley, and met many a cool artist.

Thank you David Ketcherside for organizing the artist alley, as well as Pat and Doug Booze for organizing the art show.

So glad I had Chris Baldwin as a neighbor in the artist alley, as he is a very talented and entertaining comic artist.

After working for a few months at multiple jobs, barely having any time to doodle much less see my boyfriend, things are paying off a bit.

I got my studio up, with my imac and wacom cintiq going, which is a GORGEOUS experience in itself. And just got the news that a table has freed up at the Emerald City Comicon 2011!!! I'm going to be at the convention after all! What a freakin' stroke of luck

Was like having a badass cup of tea.

It seemed like a smaller version of Norwescon, and I still sold a reasonable amount of art and prints, as did the majority of the other artists. My "Lily" and "Surfacing" originals have found new homes, and several prints were purchased. Got a couple of ribbons for my Bullfly piece.

I got to sit front and center in the exhibit hall and draw on my lovely cintiq too. Felt more like I was showing off a wacom product more so than my artwork, but I did end up meeting several swell people.

Also stayed with my family in the Portland area during this event, and I got to meet and hold my three-week-old niece.

Is it fall already? Wait...winter?

Well, I have not been able to produce any completed art pieces lately, just the sketch "Harpies" below, a study for my Gender Myth series (in watercolor)

I cannot describe my disappointment enough, at the 2011 Emerald City Comicon Artist Alley filling up before I could enter :(

I've taken up a couple extra seasonal jobs, on top of my usual web design job, to catch up on some debt/bills, making my wacom cintiq sad and lonely :(

Also! I got some royalties from Artisans where my watercolor prints are for sale, sold a couple prints on ebay, and one more on etsy. I'm not rolling in the art dough by any means, but it's the most satisfying income I've had all year.

I'm still planning on going to this upcoming OryCon in November, and RustyCon in January. I'm also committed to drawing a comic for Fadere, a writer I met online whose writing I admire. Titled: "Sweet Noms".

I used a different painting technique in this illustration then usual...and I think I like it. By using brush-ier paint strokes I got that 'ominous' look of the three elements (Bull, castle, and ocean with unicorns).

I almost didn't go to the recent Norwescon33...due to...unforseen....D&Ding the night before...

Anyways, like the comicon last march, I had more fun then I anticipated, though I only went on Saturday.
When I first arrived I realized I had been spoiled by the Washington state convention center. The hotel was very nice but it seemed awkward to have a convention there, with it broken up into the various wings of the building.

Obviously, it worked a bit differently then ECCC. They were much more about original, fine art from artists. Maybe next year I'll pump up the watercolor action in the artist alley.

I was totally bedazzled by the art up in the gallery space. I got to see "Brisingr" in the flesh!

Across from Brisingr I turn around to see the lovely Saphira ("Eragon") looking back at me, and signed by the artist!

After taking down the print, I am stunned as to what I see on the back. I'm certain for a few seconds that I'm mis-reading it. I proceed to ask: "Is this print...twenty five dollars?" I must have looked pretty shocked, because then the woman at desk smiles and says: "Has it found a new home?"

"Yes"

I know what I already have is signed, but really, I just want to talk to Mr. Palencar briefly if I can. After chatting about painting techniques, he puts my name on Saphira, duplicates his signature, and I am off to panels discussing the best techniques for drawing spaceships.

It was a great day.

What can I say?

Plenty.
Especially verbose adjectives describing how completely and totally freaking awesome the comicon was!!

It's amazing how patient these costumed individuals were...I swear that super woman just stood there for a good five minutes at least due to random people taking photos. And that Jango Fett guy was so much fun to talk to!

The entire experience was very thrilling. I earned more than I anticipated, made contacts, friends, and laughs.

Chris: so both roommates are gone
and they didn't leave me with a car
and there wasn't really any food
so I decided to walk about 1/2 mile to mcdonalds
but we're having this storm right now
like 40 mph winds and thick sheets of rain
32 degrees
and I guess flood warnings...
I missed the flood warnings
so I start walking there
and there are like giant lakes I keep having to go around
they block the entire street
twice I stepped in like 4-5" puddles

me: LOLOL

Chris: and mcdonalds is completely surrounded by this giant moat

me: oh no!

Chris: it's fucking impregnable

me: yeah, there's nothing that can counteract that moat card

Chris: so I had to ninja my way in
doing fucking parkour moves to gain access
I get inside
and the employees are speachless
APPARENTLY they've been watching me the whole time
like try for 20 minutes to get in

Oh god,
I'm weeping from laughing
well at least now you don't have to shower?

Chris: there were people trapped inside

me: omg!

on my walk home, I took my drink with me

looking for a way in
the roads were full of water too
there was like a 5 foot strip in the middle that was dry
so I had to run along that
I had to wait for traffic to slow
and then I sprinted down

me: my boyfriend wants to illustrate this and put it on his online comic

Chris: it's important that he draw me bundled up with lots of clothes, and just a hair out of shape
to really illustrate the irony in my actions and demeanour

me: I want McDonalds now
